The paper towel is now framed and hangs in the Art of Our Soul studio, at 5330 N. 12th St. He recalled telling his shaman, who told him he knew what the words meant but wanted Lee to discover their meaning for himself. Lee told The Republic he woke up on July 8 and saw three words written on a paper towel: studio, gallery, school. That happened night after night after night. "After about four months, in April, I woke up in the middle of the night from a dream as if someone was throwing a can of paint at my face," he said. Through his therapist Lee began seeing a shaman as a way to heal. "My mental health suffered through the pandemic. Now, it’s my turn to give back in a truly meaningful way.” “It is my life’s purpose to share that gift with those who are at their lowest. “Art has saved my soul in the darkest of times,” he wrote in his social media statement. In his statement, Lee credited art with helping him heal. "I just didn’t know when that next chapter would be written." "I’ve always known in the back of my head that I would eventually want to write a new chapter in my life," he said. That he would eventually leave news isn't a surprise, Lee told The Arizona Republic. Lee has been open about his own abuse and addictions, which he detailed in his memoir, “ Mascara Boy.” ![]() “I’ve created a program, Art Of Our Soul, that will help recovering addicts, sex trafficking victims, survivors of domestic violence & child abuse heal.” “I am taking a giant leap of faith and will now focus all of my time and energy helping survivors of trauma heal through art therapy,” Lee wrote in the posts.
